Fashion SOS: The basics: Lingerie

While it may be hotter than hot outside, a fashion girl’s thoughts have started to turn to autumn/winter 2010. Key trends? Well that’s a whole other post but for now look out for all shades of camel and plenty of velvet. To be honest, I am more concerned with investing in some great quality basics right now. Blame the economy (and that upcoming budget, thanks George Osbourne!) but it seems wise to play it a little safe when it comes to splashing the cash. Don’t fret, I’m not saying we should cut back on shopping for clothes, au contraire – rather that we should spend more money on amazing quality pieces rather than frittering away our cash on cheap buys.

Iconic designer Roland Mouret advises women to buy better and to send money on the pieces that really matter. In this multi-part post I am going to share some of his top tips. For now though I’ll start with the best, look for good quality lingerie that will provide the best basis to your look. Personally I adore everything from Myla and Agent Provocateur. Happy shopping!

Now Valentine’s Day may be over, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away the sexy undies. Agent Provocateur is the undisputed queen of sexy and still sophisticated underwear and the vintage edge plus a gorgeously covetable selection of sweet nothings makes it my first port of call for re-stocking the underwear draw.

Started in the early nineties by Serena Rees and Joseph Corre (who is the son of Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren) Agent Provocateur can be credited with bringing downright sexy and erotic lingerie out of the closet (so to speak) and into the high street. The shops are chic in black and pink, whilst the staff wear revealing pink nurses uniform to add a dose of very British, Carry On humour.

Kate Moss, Daisy Lowe and Peaches Geldof have all starred in their advertising campaigns and the range also includes some rather lovely beauty products and perfumes. The underwear has a 1940’s retro pin-up air. It’s best for lacy, sexy, flirty pieces that won’t go out of style.
